Where to find and how to reach Stegna beach in Rhodes
Stegna is located in the eastern side of the island, halfway between Rodos (Rhodes town) and Lindos. The nearest town to Stegna is Archangelos, a traditional village of Rhodes island, about 3 kilometers from the Mediterranean sea.
The National Road of Rhodes leads directly next to Archangelos, and there are two junctions, where you can turn off the main road to Stegna.
Both road junctions are indicated by road signs, the only difference between these that the first (which is closer to Rhodes town) bypass Archangelos and takes you directly to Stegna, while the second (closer to Lindos) leads into the downtown of Archangelos, and you have to watch the road signs in the center to Stegna. Both are good options, you can’t get lost!
Don’t be surprised, the road before you arrive to Stegna is rather steep and winding, because you have to drive through some hills. Fortunately the road is quite wide all the way to the village, so you don’t have to worry – it narrows only at the entrance to Stegna. You can park in Stegna directly next to the road, which is free of course.
If you would like to visit Stegna by bus, take a look to the actual KTEL bus schedule. During off season the local buses depart to Archangelos, from where the beach is about 3 kilometres away. Taxi may be an option to Stegna from the villages nearby (Kolymbia 10 km, Faliraki 20 km, Rodos 30 km, Lindos 24 km), catch one if you prefer more this way of public transport.
About Stegna beach
The main beach is located in the front of the houses of Stegna, directly next to the coastal road. This is also the most important road of the village, where a lot of taverns, beach bars, supermarkets, and of course apartments and studios can be find. Stegna beach is quite long and wide, the its part next to the pedestrian street is about 600 meters long. Good news for many, that the proximity of the houses is not disturbing at all. There are some stairs which lead down to the beach, and you decide where you put your stuff, because there are several different parts.
You can find here full organized areas which are under the supervision of Stegna’s beach bars and restaurants, but there are also some empty places where you can use you own parasol.
One of the best things in Stegna beach is its nice surroundings. Behind the beach a long line of old tamarisk trees provide some natural shade, with some benches beneath them.
There are several well maintained areas with banana palms and lush vegetation, which usually belong to Stegna’s bars. You can lie down here under parasols, and of course guests can order cold drinks and other refreshments.
The seabed is shallow and primarily filled with gold-coloured sand, somewhere with pebbles and large rocks in the water. These rocks are perfect for great photos, or if you climb them, you can also sunbathe.
Water sports activities are also can be find in Stegna, you can rent a small boat without licence, or pedal boats to discover the coastline nearby.
The 3 best beaches of Stegna
It’s important, that Stegna beach has three different parts. Most of the visitors meet with the main beach in the village center, and it is definitely an amazing place to enjoy the Greek sun and the Mediterranean Sea.
Stegna’s main beach is located between the port of the village and the well known, recognizable sandstone cliff. The road which leads to Stegna, takes you right here, you don’t have to search much. Most of the photos of this guide was shoot here.
Beyond the port
The second beach of Stegna is a bit hidden from the eyes, due to its access. This place is the northernmost beach of the village, and it’s not difficult to reach, just turn left at the final junction, after you have arrived to Stegna.
This is also an amazing part of Stegna, and if you would like to some privacy, take a look. The character of the beach is quite similar, as the main beach, but less crowded.
You have to watch more about driving here, because the road is much narrow than by the main beach.
Grande Blue beach bar, Stegna
Stegna’s third beach is a tiny bay in the south, which belongs to a beach bar, called Grande Blue. This beach is located on the other side of the southern cliffs, so you have to drive (or walk) through a hill. The access of Grande Blue beach is a little bit tricky due to the narrow streets, so the easiest to find it by coordinates: 36.201602, 28.141207
Grande Blue beach in Stegna looks like a small bays of Kallithea, crystal clear waters with large rocks in the sea. From the parking lot there are a lot of stairs to Grande Blue beach bar itself and to the sea.
