Guide to St. Paul’s bay of Lindos

Where to find this gem of Lindos

Lindos is one of the most beautiful villages of Rhodes with ancient traditions and great beaches, on the eastern side of the island. The main beach, a wide and sandy, shallow bay is located in the north, while the other bay, the small but breathtaking St. Paul’s bay lies in the south. The beaches of Lindos are separated by the houses of the village and the ancient Acropolis itself, the distance is about 1 kilometer.

If you are in Lindos, you can walk to St. Paul’s bay from the center of the village on the narrow alleys, about 10-15 minutes of walk.

Continue on this road, a little bit closer to Lindos there is also a parking lot, but it is a paid parking. The distance between the free and the paid parkings is approx. 300 meters.

Why visit St. Paul’s beaches when you are in Lindos?

As you can see in the photos, St. Paul’s beach is a beautiful bay of Lindos with emerald and turquoise waters, where the sea surface is almost calm.

This interesting beach got its name from the tiny chapel on the southern side of the bay, St. Paul (Agios Pavlos).

One of the best things about the beach is that you can reach two organized beaches here, which are located opposite each other! Both of these are fully organized with parasols, sunbeds and beach bar.

About the main beach of St. Paul’s bay

The largest beach of St. Paul’s bay is located directly next to the free parking lot, you can walk down from here.

The small church of St. Paul is located also in this side of the bay. Next to the tiny chapel there is a tiny port for the boats of local fishermen and for smaller motorboats.

The lines of the sunbeds and parasols were built amphiteatric, ascending stepwise over each other. Before you put your down your stuff here, check the actual prices for the rent, because these are usually higher than elsewhere in Lindos.

Next to the cliffs there is a tavern and beach bar called ‘Tambakio’, where you can eat or drink.

The tiny beach of St. Paul’s bay

The other part of the beach is a small, but charming place with large rocks. You can reach it from the direction of Lindos, where the narrow, but paved alley leads to the beach.

This tiny, but amazing beach of St. Paul’s bay is also organized, but is has more natural charm due to the steep cliffs and rocks of the coast.

You can rent parasols and sunbeds here – ask for prices, usually these are quite expensive. For refreshments take a look to the small beach bar of the place, called ‘Dimitri’s Taverna’.

Both parts of St. Paul’s bay are recommended for snorkeling and diving – in Lindos village this is the best place for these activities. The beaches are well protected from the open sea, the surface is usually calm for swimming. The seabed is shallow, and you can find around the rocks and pebbles some soft, golden sand also.

One of the best views to St. Paul’s from the Acropolis of Lindos

When you climb up to the Acropolis of Lindos, and you look down at the bay of St. Paul, you can easily be surprised, beause it looks like a beautiful sea eye!

From the heights of Acropolis the views of St. Paul’s bay are breathtaking, and offer a totally different views.

Due to covering some cliffs the beach seems like a lake, which is completely isolated from the open sea.

It’s an interesting optical illusion, because there is a sea entrance of course, but cliffs from this angle tricks the eyes.

So, in Rhodes island you have the chance to see an amazing sea eye, but only after you have climbed up to the ancient Acropolis in Lindos! 🙂
